Conference Center Part 2

This is a statue of Heavenly father and Jesus to show their love for each other - Heavenly Father has his arm around Jesus shoulder.

















This picture was in storage for a long time until they found this place to put it in the conference center. It fit perfectly, it was meant to be there.



At the conference center we decided to take the tour since we have never done that before. We were told we couldn't go on the roof unless we took a tour and we really wanted to do that. The tour guide told us that it would take 30 minutes but I think it took us 1 1/2 hours. It was long, but very interesting. I will try to remember some tidbits:

• the conference center seats 21,000 people.

• there are 3 fully equipped, comfortable apartments right behind the stage for the first presidency to go rest between conference sessions.
  
  
  
  
  
  

• the gold circle thing on top of the pipe is actually a little kids round snow saucer with plaster in it and then painted gold. A very interesting story on that.



• on the left side of the stage there is a carpenter, and electrical workshops.



• the stage and choir seats can be removed. It takes about two weeks to set up for general conference.

• they translate most of languages there in the conference center with 5 guys trading off.

• 6 languages are translated in their own country.



• there is only a 3 second delay for the languages.
  


• all the escalators go up when conference is starting and they all go down at the end to get everybody in and out in a timely matter.



• there is a fountain on the main level that was added later. The designer got mad because nobody was noticing the pretty stained glass skylight. If one person is looking up then everybody would follow.

• all the money in the fountains are given to Primary Childrens Medical Center.



• the trees on the roof are chained down so they don't blow away.



• the steeple was not in the original plan. Gordon B. Hinckley told the designer to add it some how. The designer said the building would not hold that much weigh but the designer found a way and put it on the corner.
  
  
  
  
  

• the building is put under ground about 100 ft. because they didn't want it to over power the temple.



• the balcony has a 6 inch give to it for all the weight. With the stretch it strengthens it. They have only recorded about 2 inches.



• they have 6 podiums that can be moved any where.



• one podum was made out of a walnut tree from Gordon B. Hinckleys backyard.

• the organ is electric and can be moved around as needed.
  



• 11 of the pipes don't work they are only there for balance.

They left room for the rest of the apostles.


After that we went over to the reflecting pool and took some pictures.

Then we headed to the Museum. It was soon closing so we walked through very fast. We already had looked at the main level so we walked through fast. Then we headed upstairs to see the Prophets. They had a podium like they have when the General Authorities are giving their talks at conference. They have a screen where they read the talk and a clock so they know what time it is. Then the other room was called "I Am a Child of God". They had fun things for kids. Coloring, dress up, singing, matching just different activities for the kids. Then they had done a history of the building of the tabernacle. I wish we could have stayed longer but they were closing. They had some very interesting things.
